Clinical Expertise

Good Intentions’ clinical expertise and approaches are just as arrayed as the cultural makeup of its clinical staff, making us beautifully reflective of the greater Seattle community and impressively effective. All our clinical staff are trained in trauma informed interventions with the expectation that each will become certified in this area. We are experienced in a multitude of concentrations such as: suicide prevention, parent coaching, individual/family/group therapy, teen issues, personality disorders, mood/anxiety disorders, PTSD/trauma, domestic violence, stress management, addiction/chemical dependency, LGBTQ+, and developmental disabilities.

Specific clinical modalities include but are not limited to specialized habilitation, solution focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), critical incident stress management (CISM), eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and emotionally focused therapy (EFT). With such vast clinical experience and varied life exposure among our staff, it is no wonder that Good Intentions’ reputation of excellence continues to rapidly grow as we maintain our deep commitment to effectively treating each person that utilizes our multifaceted services.

Internship Approach

The desire of Good Intentions Counseling Services is to provide an internship program that helps give students a wide range of exposure. We assert the high standard that each student should be equipped with a foundational understanding of clinical social work (diagnosing, treatment plan development and implementation, assessing bio-psychosocial factors, behavioral modification assessments, data tracking, etc.) and possess a grasp of social marketing, clinical administration, and advocacy (entailing a micro, meso, macro perspective). We wholeheartedly believe that a healthy clinician is key to helping a client also become healthy while in the collaborative process of laying essential building blocks. Full Job Description for Masters Level Student Intern

Masters Level Student Intern I

The Masters Level Student Intern (I) will assist a Masters Level Clinician (Behavioral Specialist) and a Bachelors Level Clinician (Behavior Technician) in providing support and treatment to children, adolescents, and adults with limited verbal communication skills, behavioral challenges, and/or developmental challenges. Our organization serves clients in a variety of settings including family homes, clinics, governmental institutions, and academic environments.

The Masters Level Student Intern (I) will learn the following duties:

  • Become fully aware of the cultural awareness necessary to effectively provide services to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
  • Implement behavioral support plans and treatment plans for mental health management.
  • Measure goals and objectives of behavior support plans and treatment plans to ensure they are being met.
  • Analyze behavioral interventions and treatment goals to determine client success.
  • Assist clients in identifying inappropriate behaviors and developing better behavior alternatives.
  • Help caregivers facilitate behavioral interventions and treatment modalities.
  • Compile and interpret test results to diagnose and assess service eligibility for youth, adolescents, and adults.
  • Determine behavioral capabilities of youth, adolescents, and adults as they function across environments including home, school, work, and the community.
  • Design behavioral interventions for youth, adolescents, and adults.
  • Coordinate services between providers to adequately serve the client.
  • Communicate with providers regarding client’s progress.
  • Design programs and curriculum to meet the client’s needs.

Masters Level Student Intern II

The Masters Level Student Intern (II) will assist the School Liaison and a Masters Level Clinician (Behavioral Specialist) in providing support and treatment to children, adolescents, and adults. Patients may include clients with good verbal abilities, including individual therapy, but may also consist of those with limited verbal communication skills, behavioral challenges, and/or developmental challenges. Our organization serves clients in a variety of settings including family homes, clinics, governmental institutions, and academic environments.

The Masters Level Student Intern (II) will learn the following duties:

  • Become fully aware of the cultural awareness necessary to effectively provide services to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and the LGBTQ+ population in general.
  • Fully understand the foundational principles of applied behavioral analysis.
  • Become familiar with Trauma informed care and the basics of effective implementation.
  • Distinguish between the inherent differences of therapeutic modalities e.g., CBT, EMDR, EFT, DBT, etc.
  • Attend Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and other critical meetings with the School Liaison.
  • Work with community partners in addressing the mental health needs of the prison re-entry population.
  • Conduct group and family counseling under close supervision.
  • Implement behavioral support plans and treatment plans for mental health management.
  • Measure goals and objectives of behavior support plans and treatment plans to ensure they are being met.
  • Analyze the behavioral interventions and treatment goals to determine client success.
  • Assist clients in identifying inappropriate behaviors and developing better behavior alternatives.
  • Help caregivers facilitate behavioral interventions and treatment modalities.
  • Compile and interpret test results to diagnose and assess service eligibility for youth, adolescents, and adults.

Student interns work in a collaborative, team member supported environment that encourages supervision and communication. On-the-job training is provided on the principles and procedures of the Positive Behavioral Support (PBS) treatment model and Functional Assessment reporting under the supervision of a Bachelors Level Clinician (Behavior Technician).

  • Monday through Saturday availability
  • Able to attend weekly virtual Friday team meetings
