Board Certified Behavioral Analysis
Board Certified Behavioral Analysis (BCBA) has Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) as the focal point and takes a systematic approach to modifying undesirable behaviors. Its foundational principles can be traced back to the operant conditioning theories of B.F. Skinner, and unbeknownst to most, “timeouts” as a method of extinguishing negative behaviors among children in the 1960s is a basic facet of ABA. The ABCs of ABA consist of Antecedent (the initial situational prompt), Behavior (the response), and Consequence (the associated reinforcement). This particular technique is recognized as especially appropriate for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and developmental disabilities.
