Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)
Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is a crisis intervention for those that have experienced a traumatic event i.e. risk of death, hostage situations, natural disasters, etc. It can be implemented with organizations, communities, groups, families, or individuals. This therapeutic model is useful in lessening the impact of the specific traumatic incident of concern, encouraging an incremental recovery process, and restoring normal functioning for each individual.

Improving Health with Critical Incident Stress Management
First Responders
Did you know that Critical Incident Stress Management was inspired by the need to help first responders cope with the traumatic events they face in their career? It is still the most widely used support process for first responders in the United States. A meta-analysis found that only 9.58% of first responders that were surveyed did not find CISM helpful.
Reducing Psychological Distress
While Critical Incident Stress Management is not a replacement for one-on-one therapy, there is statistical evidence that shows it can effectively reduce symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and other forms of psychological distress.
