Solution Focused Therapy
Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) is short-term and future-oriented in that it develops solutions by first displaying how one’s life will be different once a stressor is eliminated. The problem is not to be dwelled upon. The therapist works with the client in remembering prior solutions that were successful, expressing personal techniques that are currently in place, and continuing to utilize what is already working. Uniquely this therapeutic strategy was created after years of observation within an inner-city outpatient mental health setting.
